There are certain individuals who get alarmed or scared when experiencing heartburn and chest pain. Most of them think that these two conditions may develop into more serious heart ailments. With that said people who experience heartburn need more information when it comes to the possible diseases related to this symptom.
When a person experiences chest pain alone, this may pertain to a more serious health problem, which focuses into the cardiovascular disorders. If a person is experiencing heartburn accompanied by a chest pain, this may signify other health issues.
What is heartburn? Heartburn is triggered by several underlying conditions. It is a burning sensation in the lining of the esophagus going to the throat caused by a back flow of acid found in the stomach; this condition is common among men.
Why does a chest pain sometimes accompany heartburn? Chest pain takes place during an episode of heartburn, when there is a persistent irritation in the esophagus that damages the lining because of the frequent acid regurgitation. The body tends to compensate and signal the brain that there is something wrong in the body, which eventually transmits a signal back to the affected part. This feedback can be manifested as a symptom of chest pain.
There are several underlying diseases that are linked with both heartburn and chest pain as among the symptoms. These conditions can be categorized as:
? Gastroesphageal reflux disease or (GERD) ? One of the common diseases that is accompanied by chest pain and heartburn is GERD. It is a disease which denotes a problem in the (LES) or lower esophageal sphincter; this is when the muscle valve does not function normally. This can result in the back flow of acid in the stomach along the pathway of the esophagus and can gradually pass in the throat. The treatment of GERD is usually medication that can halt and neutralize acid formation to avoid acid reflux.
? Peptic Ulcer ? Another disease that can manifest symptoms similar to that of heartburn and chest pain is peptic ulcer. The cause of peptic ulcer is thought to be only in poor diet and stress. Study reveals that too much production of stomach acid and Helicobacter pylori are the leading reasons why peptic ulcer is experienced. The treatment of ulcer depends on the root cause of the ulcer. Normally, if the ulcer is caused by certain medication such as NSAIDS that can destroy the lining in the stomach, it is important to stop taking the medication at once.
? Hiatal Hernia ? In this condition, the stomach is positioned upward into the chest and the opening of the diaphragm. Hiatal hernia is accompanied by GERD. This is another reason why both heartburn and chest pain are manifested ? because of the possible acid reflux experienced by a person suffering from this disease. These health problems are common to people who are aged 50 and up. Thus, medical intervention for this disease is to take medications that have properties to neutralize the acid reflux reducing pain, heartburn and other symptoms of hiatal hernia.
Keep in mind, though, that when you experience chest pain alone, this can pertain to a heart problem. However, if you experience both symptoms of heartburn and chest pain, the given examples discussed above may be linked with both symptoms. These diseases are the ones that can be categorized as abdominal health problems. This is why it is important to know and understand every symptom felt in one?s body. This will certainly help you in determining whether these symptoms belong are linked to conditions of the heart, the abdomen or stomach area, or if the symptoms are from other health problems within the body.
